Operations and local payments built in.
Vendor's bet: the operational side of a Balkans store belongs in the platform. Local bank payments, ERP sync, one catalogue across languages, and stock across locations are designed to work together.
Shopify is the best-run commerce platform in the world. What changes when your store is in North Macedonia or Serbia, and when Shopify is still the right choice.
Shopify is excellent, and for plenty of stores it's the right choice. The argument here isn't that Shopify is bad. It's that a Shopify store in North Macedonia or Serbia runs without Shopify's own payment stack, and that compromise doesn't go away. In Bulgaria and Greece, where Shopify Payments works, that argument is much weaker, and the difference comes down to ERP and selling across borders.

Shopify's bet: a fast, reliable core with an app ecosystem for everything else. It's unmatched for launching quickly, as long as its payment stack and apps are available where you sell.

No. Shopify Payments isn't available in either country, so a Shopify store there has to connect a third-party payment gateway. It is available in Bulgaria and Greece.
Yes. Shopify's storefront languages include Macedonian, Serbian, Bulgarian, Greek, Albanian, Croatian, and Romanian, with up to 20 languages per store (30 on Plus). Its free Translate & Adapt app auto-translates at most two languages; beyond that, translation is manual or through another app.
Shopify has no native ERP sync; its certified Global ERP Program lists five apps, none regional and none for SAP. Its legacy REST Admin API also allows 2 requests per second on Basic and 4 on Advanced, a real constraint when syncing stock and prices for a large catalogue. On Vendor, connectors for Vendor ERP, Colpeo, and Infobiro are built in, and other ERPs connect through the configurable connector.
Not anymore. Since October 2025, Shopify supports up to 2,048 variants per product for all merchants. Some comparison pages still get this wrong; we'd rather not.
Yes. Your Shopify store keeps selling while we bring your catalog and customers across, and your domain switches over on a day you plan.
