Setting up shipping
Build shipping from the ground up — carriers, methods, classes, zones, and rates — and how the checkout picks an option.
Shipping is configured under Commerce Management → Shipping Settings. It has a few moving parts, but they fit together logically: a delivery option is a method, in a zone, with a rate. The quick shipping setup creates one of each to get you started.
The building blocks
- Carriers — the companies that deliver (DHL, a local courier).
- Methods — the choices a customer sees (Standard, Express).
- Zones — the geography you deliver to, matched by country, then city, then postcode.
- Rates — the price for a method in a zone, in a given currency.
- Classes — optional groupings on products for special handling.
Create a zone and a rate
Add a zone
Go to Shipping Settings → Shipping Zones → Add. Give it a Title, set it Active, and list the Countries (optionally cities and postcodes). Lower Priority numbers are matched first.
Add a method
Under Shipping Methods, create the method (e.g. Standard) and make sure it's active.
Add a rate
Under Shipping Rates, set the price for that method in that zone, in the cart's currency. Optionally add a free-shipping threshold.
